According to the Celulose Online Portal (March 2023), Suzano stated that South America is not expected to announce new short-fiber expansion projects beyond those already planned, due to the shortage of raw materials.
In addition to major ongoing projects, such as Suzano’s plant in Ribas do Rio Pardo (MS) and Arauco’s unit in Mato Grosso, as well as recently inaugurated ones like UPM’s plant in Paso de los Toros (Uruguay) and Arauco’s MAPA Project, these operations are expected to consume nearly all available wood supply in the market, leaving no room for large new mills between 2024 and 2028.
According to Ivan Tomaselli, president of STCP Engenharia de Projetos, “the establishment of new eucalyptus and pine plantations has been limited, and productivity has not increased. On the other hand, there is growing demand for wood—around 2% to 3% per year,” as reported by Celulose Online in April 2023.

This medium-term increase in production is expected to raise wood prices, while the greater supply of pulp may slightly reduce its market price.
COOKINGMAX™ TECHNOLOGY
In this scenario, Dorf Ketal is introducing to the market its specialized line of COOKINGMAX™ products—cooking aids that improve liquor penetration into wood during the cooking process, ensuring more uniform cooking and greater process control. This allows higher productivity through reduced rejects, lower alkali consumption, and optimized wood usage.
